06 – Hostile filming protocol

Assess your team’s needs for training to prepare them for the situations they could face in production.

Hostile or high-risk training should incorporate the following:

  • Threat identification
  • Risk assessment
  • Contingency planning
  • First aid/medical trauma
  • Threat reaction
  • Hostile environment vehicle training
  • Keeping equipment and materials safe
  • Filming in crowds
  • ID protection for team members and participants

Team members may also need training in abductions, bribery, landmines, digital security, civil unrest, negotiation, defensive driving, emotional resilience, and the prevention of gender-based and sexual violence.

If team members have received training in the past, refresher courses are STRONGLY recommended to keep what they learned top of mind in a tense situation.
